Tap Tap

Tap. Tap. Tap. I can hear the sound again. My eyes dart around the dimly lit room scanning the walls and the corners for the source. I slowly draw the covers down and climb out of bed.

Tap.

I turn around, certain I know the source. I tap on the bed post yet the hollow sound is not the same as the persistent tapping. I stop and listen. All the hairs standing up along the back of my neck and arms. Those familiar heebie jeebies.

I am so in tune with the ambient noise in this moment. The soft hum of the air conditioner, the buzzing of an aging light fixture just outside my door…. TAP TAP!

I spin around and walk slowly towards the closet. There is an ironing board hanging from a hook on the wall. With outstretched fingers I tap the cold surface with my finger. Tap tap. THAT’S IT!

At last I have found the source. I can feel a smile stretch across my face as I retreat back to my nightstand. GOTCHA! I grab my Mel Meter and turn it on. The familiar chirp of the devise powering up followed by the soft red glow of the screen wash over me.

With a shaking outstretched hand, I slowly scan the closet with the devise. Almost immediately the EMF detector jumps to a .2, then .3 and back to 0.0. I stand still another moment here. I turn the devise off and head back to bed.

Just as my head touches the cold pillow… TAP TAP. I sit upright and face the closet. Starring for what feels like an eternity into the abyss. Nothing stares back. After a long while I begin to notice the weight of my eye lids starting to fall ever so slowly. I decide to get out of bed once more. I walk to the bathroom and flick on the light switch and close the door about halfway. The yellow light washes over the room providing a sense of security.

As I pull the covers close to my face I turn my body to face the closet. My rempod sits between myself and this dark hole. The tiny red light feels like a beacon of safety and defense safeguarding me from what lies just a few feet away. Eventually I nod off and drift into a dreamless sleep.

BEEEEEEEP BEEEEPPP. My eyes flutter. It takes a moment for them to adjust. My eyes focus and I remember. The closest, the tapping, the rempod. I quickly reach over to the nightstand and grab my phone and hit record. “Now that you have my attention, do it again.” I wait only a few seconds, BEEP BEEPPPP. The green light blinks on the rempod indicating something has entered the emf field around the antenna.

“Thank you, you must have read my mind. That was pretty cool.”

BEEP BEEPP BEEEPP. Again the green light blinks at me from the nightstand.

“Thank you.”

This was my first overnight in a haunted hotel alone. The video evidence of my rempod encounter can be seen on my TikTok and Instagram page.
